Edinburgh Marathon 2011

Alistair LangronTwo members of Holmfirth Harriers completed the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday. The race started in the centre of Edinburgh, hitting the coast road at 4 miles. Athletes had strong winds behind them as the race passed through Mussleburgh and Prestonpans before turning back into the wind at 18 miles to finish at Mussleburgh Race Course.


Alistair Langron finished in 105th position in a new personal best time of 2hours 56mins 38secs, taking 19minutes off the time he ran in London in 2010. He went through halfway in 1hour 24mins 47secs, but like all the athletes , struggled into the wind in the closing stages.


Margaret SykesOver 40 veteran Margaret Sykes finished in 762nd position, 9th Vet over 40 in a new personal best time of 3hours 21mins 12secs. This was a 20 minute improvement on her debut performance in London2010. Margaret ran an even paced race, passing the halfway mark in 1hour 37mins 08sec, but again struggled against the wind over the last 8 miles. However, she was only 4mins 36secs outside her target time, an excellent run and a reward for twelve weeks of hard Training.


The men’s race was won by Tipton Harriers international Phil Nichols in 2 hours 19mins 21secs and the women’s race winner was Sarah Harris in 2hours 42mins 59secs.
