National Road Relays, Sutton Park - Saturday 16th October

Holmfirth Harriers Ladies fielded their Yorkshire Road Relay-winning team at the English National 4-stage Road Relay Championships at Sutton Park on Saturday. It was the first time that all four team members have been able to compete in this National race, due to race calendar clashes in previous years and the result was much anticipated after their recent successes.

Kath Farquhar once again led on leg 1 and had a great run amongst tough competition and finished 32nd place out of 85 athletes in a time of 15:57. A slight change in the running order of the team saw Ladies Captain, Helen Berry taking over on leg 2. Helen ran a very strong race and gained 12 places in a time of 15:55, making it the first time that she and Farquhar had run sub-16 minutes for this course. Claire Leaver ran well on leg 3 dropping only 4 places to 24th, in 17:03. Katie Walshaw ran the anchor-leg in a time of 15:45 gaining 4 places to bring the team home in an excellent 20th position, in a total time of 1:04:40.
