Katie ran away from rest of women to win 1 st female and the egg stage again. Kath finished 3 rd female, 1 st V40 and with Lucy Griffiths in 5 th place we also finished 1 st team again. Special mention to Ruby Sykes who improved on last week’s time by a minute and finished 2 nd U14G. Full Holmfirth results below.

Race 2

Fun, frolics, fantastic turnout and really fast times from our Holmfirth Athletes, junior and senior.......oh and loads of chocolate – especially if you are Katie. Bunny Run 2, with a record turnout of 334 runners, included 15 Holmfirth athletes. The course, much drier than last week and the relatively calm conditions (compared to an average day at Penistone Hill- if you’ve been you’ll understand) lead to some really fast times – with most of our runners who took part in the first race running faster and those who didn’t posting excellent performances.

The stampede from the gun was lead by none other than our own Lewis Byram leading out a field containing the great Ian Holmes among others (see small 12year old boy in yellow vest in photo). Unsurprisingly Lewis did not manage to hang on to 1 st place but finished 1 st Harrier 31 st position and 5 th U14 in 17.39. Katie Walshaw demolished the ladies field winning both the “egg stage” (whoever gets to the end of the 1 st small lap first wins a separate prize both men’s and women’s) and the overall 1 st female in 17.53 nearly a minute ahead of 2 nd female. Behind Katie, Seth Waterman (6 th U14 11year old) and Wayne Byram battled it out Wayne once again coming off worse, Seth 50 th in 18.23 and Wayne 51th 18.27. William England another to improve on last week’s times just pipped Kath Farquhar to the post in 18.54 61 st place, 9 th U14. Kath managed 18.57 64 th place breaking the female V40 record by 47 seconds and staying ahead of a possy of junior girls for 3 rd female spot. Harmonie Waterman improved by a minute on last week’s time this time with both shoes on for the whole race, to take 3 rd U14 girl in 19.35 81 st overall. Lucy Griffiths in her 1 st Bunny Run of 2010 finished in 91 st in 19.50. Andrew Farquhar upset his big sister running strongly in 138 th 21.10, Ruby Sykes and Lucy Farquhar finishing within seconds of each other in 166 th and 169 th places Ruby in 21.53 and Lucy 21.57. Sophie Spencer improved by 3 minutes on last week running round in 23.51 with Debbie Williams in her fell racing debut not far behind in 24.21 and 230 th place. The Holmfirth runners were rounded up by Tim Cock in 246 th 25.01 and 11year old Joe Williams in 271 st place 26.08.

The next race takes places on Tuesday 20 th Penistone Hill Country Park, near Haworth. See you there.

Race 1

Well done to all the Holmfirth Athletes who competed in the first Bunny run of the 2010 series last Tuesday 6 th April. For the uninitiated the Bunny Runs are a series of races held every Tuesday in April at Penistone Hill Country Park in Howarth. The races are legendary for the fantastic atmosphere, the great turn out and the wonderful chocolate prizes and giveaways. Race 1 did not disappoint. Over 300 runners signed up on the night to run (311 to be precise) a record according to Dave Woodhead race organiser, including 11 Holmfirth athletes, ranging in age from 11 years old to 60 something years old (Tim!!) it really was a race for everyone. The junior athletes I am afraid to say way out performed the seniors! First Harrier home in 24 th place was 12 year old Lewis Byram in 18.19 (4 th U14 boy) next back was Seth Waterman (only 11) in 44 th place in 19.19, Wayne Byram (struggling to come to terms with having been so soundly beaten by his 12year old son) 50 th 19.34 followed by Kath Farquhar 56 th overall and 3 rd female (1 st FV40) in 19.53. Hot on her heels were William England also only 12, 63 rd in 20.06 and Harmonie Waterman who ran most of the race with only one shoe and yet still managed to clinch victory in the U14 girls category 81 st place in 20.46. Lucy Farquhar completed the women’s team for Holmfirth in 133 rd spot and 5 th U14 girl. The harriers women finished second female team only one point behind Ilkley (with 2 juniors counting for the team). Joe Williams (also only 11) managed to hold off the threat from a fast finishing (well ishh...) Tim Cock and finished in 214 th place, Tim followed him home in 228 th with the 2 Sophies finishing off a great evenings racing for Holmfirth Sophie Spencer in 236 th (in her first fell race) and Sophie Williams in 263 rd. Much fun was had by all and lots of Easter Eggs were won. Well done to everyone who raced.......

Fancy having a go? This Tuesday Bunny Run 2 – Penistone Hill Country Park Howarth 7.15pm start – go on give it a try

Welcome to the fell running section. If you have an aversion to tarmac and the prospect of scrambling up steep-sided hills and careering down the other side on paths mainly populated by nimble-footed sheep, come rain, shine or snow sounds like fun, then fell running is for you. Holmfirth Harriers has a long and glorious history of running on the fells. Recent individual achievements include three consecutive wins in the Old County Tops for Tom Brunt and a silver medal in the Yorkshire championships for Helen Berry. On the team front we have had a series of solid performances in the FRA relays and the Ian Hodgson. In the 2009 Calderdale Way Relay the women were 4th and the men equalled their best ever performance with a magnificent 3rd place.
